June 2009: Annapolis to investigate the working conditions of graduate and adjunct employees in the University of Maryland System; first step to possible unionization for graduate assistants and adjunct faculty at UMD. Read about it here.  

May 2009: In a landslide decision, grad assistants at Florida State University vote to unionize, becoming 30th recognized grad employee union in US. Read about it here.

October, 2007: UMD's Sociology newsletter includes contribution from Laura Moore, "A Case for Grad Student Unionization."

Check out worldwide university rankings by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. UMCP ranks 37th, and all public universities with higher rankings have unionized grad students.

Check out details on Rutgers' new contract, which includes a 32% pay increase over 4 years (8% a year) while protecting their 15-hour work week.

October, 2007: University of California graduate employee union ratifies contract, including a 5% yearly pay raise, new provisions for personal, sick, family and bereavement leave, childcare subsidies, and workload enforcement. More detail here.
